See the true nature of the Kushiro Marsh
Cape Kirakotan is a designated special protection zone in the Kushiro Marsh. It is one of the locations where Japanese cranes were discovered in the 1920s after being thought to have gone extinct. It is a place of breathtaking nature, with a magnificent view of a river meandering through the wetland. Since the cape is only accessible with special permission, and visitors must go on foot or horseback, it is considered the inner sanctum of the Kushiro Marsh.
Cape Kirakotan is a designated National Natural Monument, and permission from the Agency for Cultural Affairs is required to enter the area. For details, contact the Kushiro Village Board of Education (TEL 0154-64-2050) or join a tour organized by the Tsurui Dosanko Ranch.
